Is this the Chinese oolong of oriental beauty adorned with a
Rajasthan wild silk sari?
The cultivation of Chinese tea varietals in Darjeeling, India dates back to 1841, when British East India held the land lease to Darjeeling. The first Agent of the land, Dr. Campbell, experimented with growing imported Chinese tea seeds near his Beechwood residence. The tea plants thrived on the steep Himalayan hills in the land of the “majestic thunderbolt” and by 1852 the first commercial tea gardens in Darjeeling were operating and flourishing.
Rohini Wonder tea is a tribute to its ancestral origins—the confluence of Chinese tea seeds infused with the light, air, rain and soul of Darjeeling’s Himalayans. Darjeeling’s silky oolong tea pays homage to Chinese tea making, having no bitterness or tannic astringency. And although the finest grade Bai Hao oolongs may treat its Darjeeling offspring as a distant relative, Rohini Wonder is a persistent oolong scene stealer.
Lustrous fragrances of plums, toasty pecans swirled with evanescent notes of pure sweet muscatel with a bouquet of clover will make both the tea novice and tea master smile with pleasure. Upon infusion, these whole, semi-oxidized, silver-tipped leaves unfurl into a sublime swirl of amber and green, imparting florals of jasmine, rose nectar and magnolia.
